Instructional Designer

Project Manager

24/7 Teach is an education-focused organization that designs and delivers innovative, technology-driven learning solutions to empower students, educators, and communities. This microlearning module was designed for the Instructional Design Bootcamp at 24/7 Teach to help instructional design students quickly and effectively grasp how to select the appropriate instructional content for different learner needs and edge cases.

I took on the role as the Instructional Designer. I worked closely with  a team of Instructional Designers, and Project Managers.

The Challenge:

Bootcamp students were struggling with choosing the right content for diverse learner profiles, especially when faced with time constraints or specific learning needs.  As this was a frequent conversation among the students, I felt it was helpful to dive deeper.

Solution

When creating this, I had to decide what is the best way to create present this material if learners have limited time to engage with the content. To address this, a microlearning module was designed using Articulate Rise. The module focused on:

  • Helping students understand key factors to consider when analyzing their audience.

  • Teaching practical methods to align audience needs with appropriate content.

  • Providing real-world examples and actionable steps.

DESIGN PROCESS

Let's dive deep into the project!

1. Define the problem - Understand the challenges instructional design students face when selecting content types, communicate closely with Subject Matter Experts and team.

2. Needs Analysis - Pinpoint what learning will address this problem, learning objectives, focus on skills that are most frequently needed, defining the target audience.

3. Structure Microlearning - Outline the learning flow and create a storyboard organizing the content.

4. Develop Content - Create and design the learning materials on Articulate Rise as a microlearning, write concise and actionable content with clear examples.

5. User Test and Iterate - Validate the effectiveness of the microlearning on users and iterate based on feedback.

6. Launch - Present a short training for it to the bootcamp cohort!

Kickoff Meeting

During the kickoff meeting, we focused on understanding the challenge bootcamp students were facing with choosing the right content for different learner profiles. I worked closely with SME's, senior instructional designer and a project manager to get clarity on the problem. We talked about how students often felt stuck deciding between things like quick start guides, elearning, or job aids, when problem solving for training requests . I asked a lot of questions to really pinpoint what would be most helpful for the students and shared my ideas as a resource. By the end of the meeting, we had a clear plan and I felt confident moving forward. I also made sure to communicate clearly about scheduling future meetings and what the SME's should expect their work load on this project.

Key Issues Identified Through Needs Analysis

  1. Students lacked a structured approach to analyzing their audience’s unique needs.

  2. They were uncertain about how to align learning objectives with those needs.

  3. Questions about content selection were recurring in bootcamp feedback sessions.

Constraints:

  • Students had limited time to engage with learning resources as they receive new materials weekly

  • The content needed to be actionable and directly applicable.

Outcome and Reflection

  • The final microlearning module was well-received by the Bootcamp students. Many shared that the real-world examples and step-by-step breakdown made it easier to understand how to approach content selection in different situations. The concise structure allowed them to engage with the material quickly and apply what they learned right away.

  • This project helped me grow as an instructional designer. I learned how to take a common learner struggle and turn it into a focused, helpful resource that fits into a busy schedule. I also gained experience collaborating with team members, asking the right questions, and building a solution that felt practical and supportive.

  • It was rewarding to see something I built help others build confidence and that’s what instructional design is all about.
